Good morning Anne!

I'm still recovering from Sunday night, the premiere of my one woman show "Fancy Meeting Me Here."

I still can't believe it actually happened...it was truly one of the best nights of my life.

What started with a really simple question almost two years ago lead to an experience I'll never forget.

The question - asked by one of my coaches - was "what are you doing for fun?"  That simple question got me doing some "just for fun" things like taking a pole dancing class (not my thing LOL) and acting like a tourist in my home city of Chicago (definitely my thing). It also got me thinking...about what truly lights me up inside. I flashed back to December 2019 when a friend gave me a 15 minute "comedic storytelling" spot in his variety show. I've been a speaker for 20 years, but this was different. This was crafting stories in a unique way. It was challenging and scary. And I LOVED it.

So in the midst of all this "just for fun" stuff I had a wild thought - what if I created a one woman show? This thought had literally never crossed my mind until that moment....and then I couldn't shake it. I realized I had three friends who each had each created their own shows, so I called them and asked them a million questions.

I had this feeling that I can't really describe - there was a creation inside of me that wanted to come out. In this way. So I started researching and watching solo shows. And then I took a giant leap - I set the date. I didn't know any of the details, I just knew that I needed to set a date in order to bring this to fruition. The date was nearly 18 months in the future.

And last Sunday that date happened and the dream materialized.

The process in between took a lot of work and time and energy. I worked with a variety of people to help me form the idea, the story arch, draft (and redraft and redraft and redraft) the script. I found a director and another writing coach. I worked with an awesome designer. I found the theatre. There are a million little steps in this process....yet in many ways it came together seamlessly.

That's not to say it was easy. In fact, the week leading up to the show was one of the most stressful I've ever had. I wondered if I could pull it all off, if I would forget my lines, if the audience wouldn't care about the story.....

Yet when I stepped on stage Sunday night and felt the energy and love of the live audience, I felt like I was home. I had an absolute blast creating an experience that made the audience laugh and cry and feel inspired.

I'm telling you all of this to share that if there is a dream inside of you, do whatever you can to make it happen. It might scare you (the good ones always do), yet the process will grow you in ways you can't imagine right now. And when it transpires you will experience a high better than any drug in the world. Your future self is calling - will you answer the call????
